CHEMetrics Peracetic Acid Test Kit

Peracetic acid is a powerful oxidizing agent widely used for disinfection, sanitization, and microbial control across a variety of industries. In food and beverage processing, peracetic acid is commonly used to sanitize equipment, tanks, pipelines, pasteurizers, fillers, evaporators, and food-contact surfaces. The pulp and paper industry utilizes peracetic acid for delignification and bleaching applications, while municipal and industrial wastewater facilities increasingly rely on peracetic acid as effective biocide and disinfectant.

Routine monitoring of peracetic acid concentrations is essential for ensuring effective disinfection, optimizing chemical usage, maintaining process efficiency, and meeting regulatory requirements. CHEMetrics Peracetic Acid Test Kits provide fast, reliable analysis for process monitoring, sanitation verification, and water treatment applications.

Peracetic Acid Test Method

DPD Method

CHEMetrics Peracetic Acid Test Kits utilize the DPD Method for the determination of peracetic acid in water and process solutions. During testing, the sample is treated with an excess of potassium iodide. Peracetic acid oxidizes the iodide to iodine, which subsequently reacts with DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) to form a pink-colored complex. The intensity of the color is directly proportional to the concentration of the peracetic acid present in the sample. Results are reported as ppm (mg/L) peracetic acid.

Various oxidizing agents, including halogens, ozone, and cupric ions, may cause positive interference and produce elevated test results. Hydrogen peroxide does not interfere when present at concentrations comparable to the peracetic acid level, making the method well suited for many sanitizing and disinfection applications.

CHEMets vs. Vacu-Vials: Which Testing System is Right for You?

CHEMetrics offers two ampoule-based testing systems for peracetic acid analysis: CHEMets® Visual Kits and Vacu-Vials® Instrumental Kits. Both systems utilize CHEMetrics self-filling ampoule technology, which automatically draws the correct sample volume int the ampoule for fast, convenient testing.

CHEMets Visual Kits use visual color comparison to determine peracetic acid concentrations and require no instrumentation. These kits are ideal for food and beverage sanitation verification, routine field testing, equipment and surface disinfection monitoring, water treatment applications, quick screening and troubleshooting, and cost-effective monitoring programs. Each kit is packaged in a durable plastic carrying case and contains everything needed to perform 30 tests, including self-filling ampoules, low-and high-range comparators, activator solutions, sample cup, and instructions.

CHEMets Refill Kits provide a convenient and economical way to replenish testing supplies while continuing to use existing comparators and accessories. Each refill kit contains 30 self-filling CHEMets ampoules securely packaged in protective trays and cartons for reliable storage, transport, and field use.

Vacu-Vials Instrumental Kits use a compatible photometer or spectrometer (sold separately, except for Single Analyte Meter/SAM models) to measure color intensity and calculate peracetic acid concentration. These kits are ideal for process monitoring and control, laboratory testing, regulatory compliance applications, higher accuracy and repeatability requirements, electronic record keeping and reporting, and facilities requiring quantitative analytical data. Each kit contains supplies for 30 tests, including ampoules, activator solution, sample cup, ampoule blank, and instructions. Vacu-Vials Kits require a compatible photometer or spectrophotometer, such as the V-3000 Photometer.

CHEMetrics Peracetic Acid Standards provide a convenient method for verifying test accuracy and confirming analytical performance. These standards help analysts validate procedures, support quality assurance programs, and ensure confidence in test results. Each standard kit includes 10 ampoules, one bottle of activator solution, a tip-breaking tool, instructions, and a lot-specific Certificate of Analysis.
