CHEMetrics Ozone Test Kits
Ozone (O3) is a powerful oxidizing agent widely used as an alternative to chlorine for water disinfection. It is commonly applied in drinking water treatment, odor and color removal, algae control, and sterilization processes throughout the food & beverage and pharmaceutical industries.
CHEMetrics offers ozone test kits for both visual and photometric analysis, providing reliable measurement options for field testing, process monitoring, and laboratory applications.
Ozone Test Methods
DPD Method
In the DPD Method, potassium iodide is added to the sample prior to analysis. Ozone reacts with the iodide to liberate iodine, which then reacts with DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) to products a pink color. The intensity of the color is proportional to the ozone concentration. Results are reported in ppm (mg/L) O3.
Indigo Method
The Indigo Method uses indigo trisulfonate dye, which reacts immediately with ozone. As ozone concentration increases, the intensity of the blue dye decreases proportionally. The reagent formulation includes malonic acid to minimize interference from chlorine concentrations up to at least 10 ppm. Results are reported in ppm (mg/L) O3.
Visual or Instrumental Kits
CHEMetrics offers two convenient ampoule-based testing systems for ozone analysis: CHEMets® Visual Kits and Vacu-Vials® Instrumental Kits. Both systems use CHEMetrics self-filling ampoule technology, which automatically draws the correct sample volume into the ampoule for fast, convenient testing.
CHEMets Visual Kits provide a simple visual method that requires no instrumentation. After the ampoule is filled with the sample, the developed color is compared to the supplied standards to determine ozone concentration. These kits are ideal for routine field testing, quick screening applications, users who do not require electronic data collection, and facilities looking for a cost-effective testing solution.
Vacu-Vials Instrumental Kits use a photometer or spectrophotometer to measure color intensity and calculate ozone concentration. This approach provides greater precision and eliminates the subjectivity associated with visual color matching. Vacu-Vials are ideal for process monitoring and control, laboratory testing, regulatory or compliance applications, users who require higher accuracy and repeatability, and electronic documentation and reporting.
