CHEMetrics Hydrogen Peroxide Kits
Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is a powerful oxidizing agent widely used throughout industrial, municipal, and commercial water treatment applications. Common uses include wastewater treatment, industrial effluent oxidation, food and beverage packaging sterilization, clean-in-place (CIP) sanitation programs, cooling water treatment, and environmental remediation. Because hydrogen peroxide rapidly decomposes into water and oxygen, maintaining the proper concentration is critical for process efficiency, product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational safety. Routine monitoring helps ensure adequate disinfection performance while preventing overfeed conditions that can increase costs or interfere with downstream processes.
CHEMetrics Hydrogen Peroxide Test Kits provide fast, reliable hydrogen peroxide analysis for industrial process water, wastewater, food and beverage processing, packaging sterilization systems, sanitation programs, and environmental monitoring applications. Both visual and instrumental test kits are available utilizing Ferric Thiocyanate, DPD, and Ceric Sulfate chemistries to support concentration ranges from trace residue levels to concentrated peroxide solutions.
Hydrogen Peroxide Test Methods
Ferric Thiocyanate Method
The Ferric Thiocyanate Method is the most widely used CHEMetrics procedure for hydrogen peroxide analysis. In this method, hydrogen peroxide oxidizes ferrous iron to ferric iron in an acidic solution containing ammonium thiocyanate. The ferric iron then reacts with thiocyanate ions to form a red-colored complex. The intensity of the color is directly proportional to the hydrogen peroxide concentration in the sample. Results are reported as ppm (mg/L) H2O2.
This method offers excellent sensitivity and is suitable for monitoring hydrogen peroxide in wastewater treatment systems, industrial process streams, food and beverage sanitation programs, and environmental applications. Chlorine does not interfere with the analysis; however, ferric iron, peracetic acid, and cupric copper may produce interference under certain conditions.
DPD Method
The DPD Method is designed for low-level hydrogen peroxide measurements where enhanced sensitivity is required. In this procedure, hydrogen peroxide reacts with DPD (N,N-diethyl-p-phenylenediamine) in the presence of potassium iodide and ammonium molybdate to produce a pink-colored compound. The resulting color intensity is proportional to the hydrogen peroxide concentration present in the sample. Results are reported as ppm (mg/L) H2O2.
The DPD Method is particularly useful for monitoring low residual hydrogen peroxide concentrations in treated water, rinse waters, and sanitation verification programs where trace-level measurements are important.
Ceric Sulfate Titrimetric Method
For high-concentration peroxide solutions, CHEMetrics offers a Ceric Sulfate Titrimetric Method using ceric sulfate as the titrant and ferroin as the endpoint indicator. During the titration, a color change from green to orange signals the endpoint, allowing accurate determination of hydrogen peroxide concentration. Results are reported as percent (%) H2O2.
This method is ideal for concentrated peroxide solutions used in chemical manufacturing, industrial processing, and sterilization applications. The test range can be expanded through sample dilution, allowing measurements from approximately 0.01% up to 20% hydrogen peroxide.
Which Testing System is Right for You?
CHEMetrics offers multiple ampoule-based testing systems for hydrogen peroxide analysis, including CHEMets® Visual Kits, Vacu-Vials® Instrumental Kits, SAM® Photometer Kits, and Titrets® Titration Kits. Each system uses CHEMetrics self-filling ampoule technology, which automatically draws the correct sample volume into the ampoule for fast, convenient testing with minimal operator technique requirements.
CHEMets Visual Test Kits use visual color comparison to determine hydrogen peroxide concentration and require no instrumentation. These kits are ideal for routine field testing, sanitation verification, wastewater process monitoring, environmental screening, troubleshooting, and cost-effective monitoring programs. Each kit contains supplies for 30 tests and is packaged in a durable carrying case for field and laboratory use.
HR CHEMets High-Range Test Kits are designed specifically for higher hydrogen peroxide concentrations that exceed the range of traditional visual comparator systems. These kits use precision dilution techniques and flat comparators to provide accurate measurements across elevated concentration ranges, making them ideal for industrial process monitoring, chemical manufacturing, sanitation chemical verification, and peroxide feed system control. Each kit contains supplies for 30 tests and all required accessories for high-range analysis.
Vacu-Vials Instrumental Test Kits use a compatible photometer or spectrophotometer (sold separately) to measure color intensity and calculate hydrogen peroxide concentration. These kits are ideal for laboratory testing, process control, quality assurance programs, regulatory compliance applications, and facilities requiring greater accuracy, repeatability, and electronic recordkeeping. Each Vacu-vials kit includes supplies for 30 tests and all required reagents for instrumental analysis.
Single Analyte Meter (SAM) Photometer Kits combine CHEMetrics Vacu-vials chemistry with a dedicated handheld photometer, providing a complete portable testing solution. These kits are well suited for operators who require quantitative field measurements without purchasing a separate instrument platform. Each kit includes the photometer, reagents, accessories, and supplies needed to perform 30 tests.
Titrets Hydrogen Peroxide Titration Kits provide a convenient method for measuring concentrated hydrogen peroxide solutions using a self-contained ampoule titration system. These kits are ideal for chemical manufacturing, sanitation, chemical verification, peroxide storage, and other applications requiring direct measurement of percent-level hydrogen peroxide concentrations. Each kit includes 30 titration ampoules and all necessary accessories for rapid field or laboratory analysis: thirty ampoules with valve assemblies, 1.0 mL syringe, 3.0 mL syringe, titrettor, 25 mL sample cup, and instructions. Increments: 0.10, 0.11, 0.12, 0.13, 0.14, 0.15, 0.16, 0.18, 0.20, 0.25, 0.30, 0.35, 0.40, 0.50, 0.70, 1.0%
