Detergent Test Method

Methylene Blue Active Substances (MBAS) Method

The Methylene Blue Active Substances (MBAS) Method is used to measure anionic detergents in a simple 3-minute test procedure. In this method, anionic detergents react with methylene blue to form a blue-colored complex. This complex is extracted into an immiscible organic solvent, providing improved sensitivity and eliminating several steps commonly required by traditional test methods. Results are expressed as ppm (mg/L) anionic detergent as linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS), equivalent weight 325.

CHEMets vs Vacu-Vials

CHEMetrics offers two ampoule-based testing systems for detergent analysis: CHEMets® Visual Kits and Vacu-Vials® Instrument Kits. Both systems utilize CHEMetrics self-filling ampoule technology, which automatically draws the correct sample volume into the ampoule for fast, convenient testing.

CHEMets Visual Kits use visual color comparison to determine detergent concentration and require no instrumentation. CHEMets kits are ideal for routine field testing, quick screening applications, cost-effective monitoring, and users who do not require electronic data collection.

Vacu-Vials Instrumental Kits use a photometer or spectrophotometer to measure color intensity and calculate detergent concentration. Vacu-Vials kits are ideal for process monitoring and control, laboratory testing, regulatory and compliance applications, higher accuracy and repeatability requirements, electronic record keeping and reporting.
