Corning Elplasia Microcavity Plates
Corning Elplasia Microcavity Plates enable researchers to generate a high density of spheroids in a scaffold-free model using microcavity technology. Use Corning Elplasia plates to generate, culture, and analyze hundreds to thousands of spheroids all in a standard plate footprint. Corning Elplasia plates are available in multiple formats, two well geometry types, and two surface coatings.
Corning Elplasia Round Bottom Plates are optimal for bulk spheroid formation, collection, and expansion. Round bottom plates are available in 6-, 24-, and 96-well formats and all feature Corning Ultra-Low Attachment (ULA) surface. Corning ULA surface is proprietary, animal-free, covalently bonded hydrogel surface that is hydrophilic and neutrally charged. The ULA surface promotes the formation and easy harvesting of anchorage-dependent scaffold-free spheroids.
Corning Elplasia Square Bottom Plates features a surface with optical qualities suited for image analysis, making them an ideal solution for clonal selection and high magnification imaging of very small clusters. Square bottom plates are plasma-treated for self-coating and come in 6-, 24-, 96-, and 384-well formats.
Key Features
- Two well geometry and surface coating options: round bottom type featuring Ultra-Low attachment (ULA) surface or square bottom type featuring a plasma-treated surface for self-cleaning
- Multiple format options: 6-, 24-, 96-, 384-well
- Black opaque sidewalls that reduce well-to-well “cross-talk”
- Plates feature a surface with optical qualities suited for image analysis
- Gamma irradiated
- One-year shelf life
Corning Elplasia microcavity plates enable researchers to generate hundreds to thousands of uniform spheroids in a single standard-footprint plate using proven scaffold-free technology. Whether you're performing bulk spheroid formation, clonal selection, or high-magnification image analysis, Weber Scientific stocks both round-bottom and square-bottom formats with specialized surface coatings optimized for your workflow. Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Round Bottom and Square Bottom Elplasia plates?
Round Bottom (Ultra-Low Attachment surface) is optimal for bulk spheroid formation and easy harvesting. Square Bottom (plasma-treated) is ideal for image analysis and clonal selection due to superior optical properties.
What surface coating do these plates have?
Round Bottom uses Corning Ultra-Low Attachment (ULA), a hydrophilic, neutrally charged hydrogel. Square Bottom uses plasma-treated surface for self-coating and image clarity.
Do I need to pre-coat the plates?
No. Round Bottom comes pre-coated with ULA. Square Bottom is plasma-treated and ready to use.
Are these plates sterile?
Yes. All plates are gamma irradiated for sterility and have a one-year shelf life.
Can I image spheroids directly in these plates?
Yes. Square Bottom plates are specifically designed for optical imaging and high-magnification microscopy thanks to their optical properties and black opaque sidewalls that reduce cross-talk.
